Scaling green transitions: using social listening to explore Green Deal online discourse across Europe
To complement the insights generated through 24 social experiments across six Green Deal priority areas, SHARED GREEN DEAL conducted a social listening analysis to explore wider public conversations on sustainability transitions. Drawing on online discussions in 10 European languages, the analysis examined topics related to clean energy, circular economy, efficient renovations, sustainable mobility, sustainable food, biodiversity, and broader themes such as citizen participation, social justice and governance.
The online discourse highlighted strong interest in knowledge-sharing, practical solutions and community-led action, as well as the importance of citizen engagement, grassroots initiatives and inclusive policymaking. Combined with lessons from the project's social experiments, the analysis points to the need for policies that strengthen local capacity, support collaboration across governance levels and enable sustainability ambitions to be translated into action within different local contexts.
