Bringing together citizens and professionals to develop know-how for energy efficient renovations
Across four countries, SHARED GREEN DEAL set out to test a simple idea: can creating space for people to share and expand their know-how on renovations help support energy efficient building renovations?
In Hungary, Lithuania, Ireland and Spain, local partners were supported in setting up Knowledge Networks—bringing together residents, professionals and community organisations to exchange practical experience around energy-efficient building renovation.
The Knowledge Networks helped people understand what renovation can look like in practice. They made it easier to connect with trusted advice, see real-life examples, and hear directly from others who have been through the process. In many cases, they helped to build confidence, motivation, and a sense of community around renovation journeys.
This resource captures key lessons from this cross-European experience and offers practical guidance on how to make the most of Knowledge Networks. It focuses on:
- why local Knowledge Networks matter,
- what’s needed to make them work well, and
- what specific actions policy actors and practitioners can take.
