Funding and impact for the green transition: New civil society online capacity-building series

Civil society organisations play a crucial role in ensuring that Europe's green transition remains participatory, democratic and community-driven. Across Europe, local organisations, grassroots initiatives and community groups are turning sustainability ambitions into concrete action, whether by supporting citizen engagement, promoting environmental awareness, advancing social justice or developing local solutions to climate challenges.
At the same time, many organisations are operating in an increasingly complex environment, marked by financial constraints, political shifts and growing uncertainty around the future of the European Green Deal. In this context, strengthening the resilience and capacity of civil society actors is more important than ever to sustain progress.
To support this effort, ALDA, MIO-ECSDE and WECF Germany are launching a two-part online capacity-building and networking series, ’Keeping the Green Deal Alive: Strengthening Civil Society for a Sustainable and Just Transition’.
Taking place on 25 June and 16 July 2026, the series is organised within the Shared Green Societies Forum and will bring together civil society organisations, community-based actors and sustainability practitioners to strengthen connections, exchange experiences and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
The initiative aims to create a space for dialogue and peer learning among organisations facing similar challenges, while also equipping participants with practical knowledge and tools that can help strengthen organisational resilience and long-term sustainability.
The first session, taking place on 25 June, will focus on fundraising, impact and organisational sustainability. Participants will explore funding opportunities relevant to climate and environmental action and discuss how organisations can better demonstrate the value and impact of their work through stronger impact framing.
Through practical input and collaborative discussions on specific funding programmes, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on strategies for strengthening their organisations and sustaining their work over challenging times.
Building on this, the second session on 16 July will continue the exchange and networking for future cooperation, while also delving deeper into the role of civil society in advancing and supporting the objectives of the European Green Deal, including discussion of project results and lessons learned related to Green Deal implementation and civic engagement.
